Please be aware that only completed manuscripts will be accepted. We are a small team; hence can't edit and fix every piece.
Contributors are expected to only submit a piece after they have edited and checked it multiple times themselves. Except for fixing typos or grammatical errors, we do not edit a contributor’s manuscript.
In addition to the completed manuscript, add a brief bio, your X handle if you have one, and your headshot in the submission e-mail.

What We Don't Publish
AI-Written Content
- Any piece written using AI will not be published in 1943. We trust in our contributors' ability to craft their prose without the need for AI, and expect them to show the same trust in themselves. Submitting AI content just once will result in us never considering a contributor's essays ever again
Breaking/Daily News
- If breaking, daily news is what you are after, this is not the place to find it, as reportage is not something 1943 does. We might, however, publish a piece about breaking news if the contributor manages to link it to a wider, timeless theme.
Hit-Pieces
- We are not after clickbait; thus will not be entertaining hit-pieces at all. However, a critical piece, given said criticism checks out, will be published.
